I’m Simona La Torre, i’m twenty seven years old and I’m a fashion designer.
I started my studies in Palermo, my city, in which I achieved a bachelor’s degree in product design.
My first approach to the fashion was a project for Polo Ralph Lauren, cooperating in partnership with a studio and working on the research of trends and the design of a collection of ten sneakers.
In 2009 I had an important experience at the Lotto Sport Italy, where for a year I worked as a Jr footwear designer. In this occasion I was able to develop my thesis.
I’ve enforced skills in sketching by hand and vectorial, in datasheets and in producing photo-realistic images using the Adobe creative suite. I worked on inspiration moodboard, material’s selection, and I also have dealt of the archive documents and I have been participating the search for interesting materials at trade fairs as Linea Pelle and Bread & Butter. Some of my proposals have also been produced.
In 2010, immediately later the experience in Lotto (a total of one year), I came back to Palermo, where as freelance i work for Mediterranean Engineering Srl on a redevelopment project of a tourist residence.
My role is to model 3D and create photorealistic images of some rooms, as well as the choice of furnishings, in agreement with the employer, finishes and details, not least, I have proposed the design of the bar counter, the counter in the lobby and photorealistic rendering of these spaces.
In september 2010 I won the ComON design contest, “Il riciclo di un idea”.
The prize consist of an internship in Lema, an wood furniture company, where I project the table “Comera” which then will be exposed in Como, during the creativity week in November 2010.
In 2010 I am admitted to Iuav University of Venice, where i attend courses at the master’s degree in fashion design.
Here I follow the lab men’s fashion held by Professor Fabio Quaranta and that of knitwear followed by Cristina Zamagni and Michele Bergamo. In July 2011, my knitwear collection is selected and exhibited at Palazzo Giacomelli at the ‘Fashion at IUAV’.
To deepen my technical knowledge I attend the advanced course: “Creative patterns. From the shapes to the dress. Pattern Making for creative designers,” in which, through the study and manipulation of basic geometric shapes are defined complex patterns, that go beyond the rules of classic modeling and the traditional concept of fit.
During the months after I work exclusively on developing of my thesis, my supervisor is Mario Lupano, and I design and realize a man and woman capsule collection named ‘Lo spettacolo del quotidiano’.
I graduated in April 2013.
